What a wonderful thing you are doing! My oldest DD was also a pregnant senior. It hurt but I wouldn't take anything in the world for my precious granddaughter. DD was luckier than some other seniors in her class. Although DH and I were hurt and disappointed, we supported and love our DD. She is now married to Lexi's Daddy and they also have a precious little boy. DD and SIL have come along way in the past 5 years. I am very proud of both of them.

i also work w/ at-risk kids and there is absolutely nothing better than one of the kids you feel like you've beaten your head against the wall "gets it" - whatever "it" is, even appreciation for something you're doing.

    Congrats to you!

Let your student know I am proud that she chose to give the baby life and not get an abortion.

That is great! You just put a big smile on my face. Becoming a mom at a young age is very difficult. I had me first at 17 and I had to grow up fast. I'm so glad that you did that for her.

Lovely thing to do for her and the baby. Life is pretty tough on young, single parents....great that she will have a mentor in you.

I also worked with at risk parent for 15 years and there is nothing more rewarding than to see them now and have them say what a difference I made!!

That's a kind and loving gesture on your part. She will remember your goodness all her life. Everyone needs someone in their corner. I wish her well.

That's wonderful, and you know she will treasure that quilt always!

I teach beginning sewing I and II in a continuation high school (if you aren't familiar with this type of school, it's for kids who are off track to graduate. They can either get back on track with us and go back to their home school, or stay with us and graduate).

Two of my girls are pregnant and I have given them projects to make for their babies. So far we have completed/working on rag quilts (even one of the boys made one for his room!), burp cloths, and bibs. They are working with cottons, flannels, and terrycloth and utilizing the sergers and embroidery machines (as well as the sewing machines).

They both have a rough road ahead, but working on these projects, and the positive comments they are getting from friends and family (my goodness, YOU made that, how wonderful) hopefully will give them added confidence.
