When I read the title to your post (before knowing what the mistake was), I immediately answered YES to the question.

I've done that also & like Jeanne S, I've had that excess edging get in the way & sewn it down also.

Yes I have and not only with quilts. I recently made an apron and stitched the middle of the tie onto the top of the apron. There's a good reason why I have more than one seamripper.

Mistake or design feature? :-) Subject to interpretation.

I always use leaders and enders with my Bernina, but don't do a lot of FMQ. I am determined to get better though and will consider your post a cautionary tale. Glad it was an easy fix.

Yes I have done that, but unfortunately, it took a lot of ripping and restitching to make it right!

Exactly how I fixed mine. After that I made sure my surface was free of any scraps or debris.

Also reminds me of the time my niece's timing was just right. She was getting ready to add another piece of fabric and just as she's sewing a spider landed on her strip, scared her and it became attached. Never heard so much shrieking. I cleaned the machine and just threw that piece of fabric away.

I've done that more than once. I cut near the threads on each side then remove the piece. Not too bad

Me too - usually when I am in a rush to get things done.

Oh heavens, yes!! I do believe I've done them all and sometimes more than once. I have even stitched paper to the back. I now try to keep all foreign objects away from the quilting table, but can still manage to stitch an overlapped piece of backing. It still doesn't stop us, though.
