Default Heading to Reno, NV in March...stores to look for?

Ok, hubby has a conference in Reno and I plan to go. We haven't fully decided if we will drive out there (3 days of long days driving) or flying. We had planned to drive but it depends on how I feel...I had surgery 2 weeks ago. If we drive, we will take our time coming back home to visit sites.

So any fabric stores I need to check out while in Reno? We will have our car or a rental so hubby can show me around since I have never been.

And if we drive out there, any suggestions on good towns to hit for fabric? We plan to take I-40 from TN.

I'm not real familiar with Reno, but there is a fabric warehouse place called Mills End. It doesn't look like much, but they've got tons of fabric, very reasonably priced. If you would like to get together, please PM me and maybe we could arrange to meet, I'm about 4 hours away.

You need to go to Windy Moon. They have a hugh seledtion of very good fabric. I believe the name of the other shop is Sierra Sewing, another great shop. I visit a friend that lives outside of Reno and we always HAVE to go to these two shops.

Cool thanks! Hubby said Reno isn't too bad to drive in so while he is at the conference, I wanted to go shopping...if the places were pretty close.

I had search around the area and I think I saw Mills End and Windy Moon but didn't know if they were good stores. Thanks for the tip!!

We go to Reno often to visit family...always have to hit these shops:

Sew-n-Such
2291 Kietzke Lane

Going Batty (Bernina dealer; beautiful fabrics)
9744 S. Virginia St., Suite C
This one is tricky to find without a GPS as it's in a row of shops not seen from Virginia St; you have to enter by a grocery store and then go around behind a bunch of buildings to get to it. It is, however, visible from highway 395, although you can't get there from that highway . Worth the effort, however.

Sierra Sewing Center
8056 South Virginia Street

I've never bought anything at Windy Moon, but do go there to check it out when time allows.

Hi tngal,

It is so nice to know you are coming to reno. Maybe we could plan a small get together of members that live in and near here for lunch and shopping. Anyone up for that??

I go to many shops around town. My favorite is Windy Moon, Going Batty, Sew and Such, Ben Franklin's and Hancock Fabrics. The walmart on the southern end of town still sells fabrics on a small scale too. There is one closing out now called, twisted sissors. I am not sure if they will still be here in march though. But, there are many more fairly close like in Carson, Fernley, Gardenerville and Truckee. Somewhere I have the old shop hop flyer with the names of the shops in the whole region. I will look for it for you if you wish. But, I am pretty sure that the stores close by will make you happy. (And your wallet smaller... lol)

If you get up to the lake, (and you should) make sure you stop in and say Hi to the nice folks at Fabric Unlimited. There isn't much in Carson City, but The Quilt House in Gardnerville is nice, as is Going Batty in Reno, and Sierra Sewing in Reno.
