Cool Heavily applique quilt

SO I am looking for a challenge and have just finished some paper piecing and now onto a new adventure
I am now in the possession of a baby go accuquilt fabric cutter and cut out many designs. I have drafted my design and realize it is packed with appliques. NOW the trick question is......... How should I quilt it? . The appliques will be adhered with wunderunder, then I will stitch around each applique with an invisible straight stitch, There will not be a lot of negative space in this quilt so should I just do a small stipple ? DO I quilt over the applique? Hmm not sure I have not appliqued before and quite excited to do so, any suggestions are welcomed and thank you!

Quilting over appliqué is personal choice. I like to window my Wonderunder on large appliqué so if I want to add some quilting in them I can. I like to add quilting or thread painting to large appliqué shapes to avoid wrinkles.

Wonder Under will make the appliques quite stiff. Not all sewing machines can handle sewing through it in a quilt. I second the suggestion to window the WU -- both to soften up the quilt, and to make it easier to quilt through the appliques if you decide you want to.

Incidentally, a small stipple will also stiffen a quilt. I did this once on a doll quilt and the thing came out almost stiff as a board!

The amount of quilting you need is largely dependent on the batting. With something like Warm and Natural, which can be quilted up to 10" apart, you could simply quilt around the appliques.

When I heavily applique anything I just do a simple echo around the design....my last couple of designs were pretty over the top, appliqued and embellished and yoyo'd....weight gets to be a problem if you go nuts with quilting.
