I am searching out something to make for my children that is a memory quilt so to speak wall hanging. I want to use my love of holidays as the theme. That said I have been fairly sick and it appears that won't be getting much better anytime soon so I am best at hand sewing each block while sitting on the couch. Less likely to feel faint this way. I need to finish their wall hangings within the coming year ideally sooner than later as it won't get easier the longer I go on. Suggestions please?

Since you are mostly sitting can you embroider holiday themed characters or around fabric photos?

It sounds like a calendar quilt with the holidays in each block would fill the bill.

First, sorry to hear you are ill, and will be long term. I pray it isn't always as rough as you are experiencing now.

When I read your question, I rembered this post:
/url]http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-155021-1.htm[/url]. This mom made a family tradition into a quilt.

Maybe you could make a characture of your kids, and have them doing some traditions your family has.

Maybe you could have some photographs printed onto fabric and use these as squares, then hand sew the sashings. Or make appliqued blocks that show highlights of family vacations and other memorable events that your children will recognize. Include ribbons and awards the kids won, print certificates from science fairs, etc. I think it depends on how old your children are. You could include boy scout badges or college diplomas. You might make one using baby pictures from several generations, or school pictures ,etc.

Whatever you do, I hope you have a lot of pleasure in making it and your family has a lot of pleasure in treasuring it. Best wishes for your improved health.

I like the pictures printed on fabric idea. You can use fabric markers to write on the back to tell a story of that day.

I hope things improve for you. I'm battleling breast cancer, have been for 3 years. Do what you can as you can, if your body tells you to rest, rest. Hang in there, keep fighting, and never give up hope!!
