I agree. I bought a couple of those thread holders and they never were able to keep the thread in the grove. This is such an excellent idea!! THANKS

To keep the thread in the groove....wrap a rubber band around the end of the large triangle shape loop and then thread thru ....like you would the eye of a needle...works well...thread never comes out...

I also use a large cup or glass behind the machine and thread as usual. it works very well.

I have taken a one piece..ball point pen apart ..take the long piece put it over the metal thread holder..this works also..it is high enough for the thread..plus if u have a piece of felt..cut a circle that fits the thread bottom make a hole in the center..put on thread holder then the pen... then the thread..this will help if u think the stool is jiggling too much..to slow that down..mostly I just use the pen..

On cross-wound thread (like on cones) - don't you need the thread to feed from the top of the spool to avoid adding twists? A couple of these solutions have the thread feeding from the side like a straight-wound spool, but I was always taught that would cause the thread to twist and could cause breakage problems.

I saved the insert from a cone spool. It had an adapter in the spool so it would fit the metal pin. I use it on my 1970's Kenmore when using cone spools. I also have a larger one from another spool. I don't remember the name of the thread.
