Sorry I already posted this on the wrong board. I'll get the hang of this yet.
What are some suggestions to limit fabric fraying when pre-washing materials?
Are basting and pinking the best or should I not worry about it?

I welcome you to the board from Iowa. I do not prewash so I am not a lot of help in this arena. I am sure someone will come along that will have just the perfect answer.

I asked a similar question not that long ago. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-133473-1.htm Lots of good advice. I now zig-zag stitch the cut edges and it works great. This board is a wonderful resource. Everyone is so helpful.

I use my serger when I prewash (which I don't hardly do anymore), but it worked great!

you can purchase a pinking blade for your rotory cutter which makes it a pretty quick process to pink the edges- or of course good ole pinking shears-
you can stitch the edges if you want to do that much work-
or you can just pre-wash the fabric- then trim the edges when it comes out of the dryer
all works fine

If a very small area use Fray Check.
Or pinking shears or rotary pinking blade.
I don't wash my fabric either.

I have never prewashed fabric either...just because of the question posted...fraying. I get enough fraying as it is. Thinking WAY back to my Home-Ec days in junior high...we did not prewash our fabric...we did iron it though.

I clip the corners and that works well for me. Just cut the corners at a 45 degree angle about 1/2 inch, depending on the width of the selvage. There will always be some fraying, but not much. I don't like taking the time to zigzag or serge the edges and then having to waste fabric cutting them off.
