I am wondering if anyone has ever made nursing pads? I am looking for a pattern or wonder what anyone has used. I was thinking some layers of soft flannel.

There is a few groups on Yahoo! that make, sell and have patterns for these, feminine napkins, diapers and such.

There are lots of sites that have free directions (just search "how to make nursing pads," or "nursing pad pattern."

This one is nice as it is contoured - reduces the bulk that would be caused by flat ones. www.easytoentertain.wordpress.com/2009/04/11/contured-nursing-pads-tutorial/

I have made them for my daughter. I just used several layers of flannel. She loved them. I also made cloth diapers for her. I invested in my own snap press.

I remember (even though it's been over 40 years) using just plain cut in two Kotex stuffed in my bra. I was a stay at home Mom, but when leaving the house i knew darn well there would be leakage, so kept one in each side and one cut in half in my purse.
Never occurred to me to make any.

I use some and love them! I just put together two pieces of leftover batting in between two pieces of flannel, and overcast the edges with my machine. I used a 10 cm circle (I used the circle in my birthing class book for how large your cervix needed to be before the baby comes out - LOL) to make my template. I just used leftover batting and flannel. They are super comfy, and work great (I leak like a sieve). I hated the store-bough washable kind that had a seam in them. Whoever decided that a seam on your nipple is a good thing, especially while nursing? They also wash great!

Oh, and to all of the men on the board, sorry if it's TMI.

old t-shirts make soft pads. I did like Mattee and used about a 4 inch cirle and sewed several layers together. worked as well as the store bought ones I had.

Don't bother with using fabric. Buy the merino wool nursing pads. You only need two sets, they are naturally filled with lanolin, there are no leaks, they breathe, they are truly amazing! I wish I'd found these with my first three kids, I was grateful when I found them for number 4.
