    This was my thought, also.

Ahhh Sooz I have the same problem w/FMQ/ I don't know why I just don't have the hang for it and I get frustrated when I have to rip out::I use SID whenever I can and simple straight lines. Guess we are limiting ourselves:::LOL Your quilt is great and I know it will look lovely when U finish:

Ditto, an easy curve over the square blocks to reinforce the wings.
In the sashing, you could make your echo stitching with a slight wave instead of straight lines, that would tie in the curves together and is actually easier than the straight lines to quilt (you don't need to worry if you "wander" slightly).

Yes, the bodies are appliqued and I used the blanket stitch setting on my sewing machine. I LOVE to use that stitch!

I would try going around each butterfly and the body.Maybe somewavy lines on the sashing. Not too elaborate but still looks nice when you turn it over. This looks very old and so beautiful design.
