Default How would you quilt this?

I recently did a log cabin cross for a Bible cover (Finished Bible Cover). As I really enjoyed the log cabin, I decided to do another one - bigger this time, for a wallhanging:

However, now I have no idea on how to quilt it... Just SID sounds a little boring... Should I quilt it by hand or by machine? Any suggestions on how?

I would do SITD in the body of the cross and then as QuiltnNan describe, stitch lines out that radiate from the cross. I LOVE the colors you used. Found the pattern on Craftsy.

I'm not sure how I would quilt this, but I like "scrappy happy" in the ditch around the main cross and "QuiltnNan" rays out from the center ideas. I have been think about make some thing like this for my church, would you share the pattern?

Yes, I like the idea with the rays, too, thank you all for your help! Here's the pattern on which I based it: Log Cabin Cross. Didn't like their quilting all that much, though... I think rays are going to look great!
