A hunter's quilt - need suggestion/ideas
#15
While I like the Hunters Star a lot and it is keeping in theme with the quilt, the design is really lost if several blocks aren't put together. I am thinking you could Flying geese around what you have already (for the Canada goose block) or maybe maple leaf blocks because most hunters are avid outdoorsman. Log cabins always look nice or draft up some pine tree blocks. Maybe this quilt I built around a panel will give you some ideas:

I was thinking a very small border of the gray bark material or similar to it around the blocks you have already laid out. Then adding some of the suggestions the others have made. It is beautiful...I love the colors and what you have done!

Somewhere on the web is a site where you can get a great chart for sizing them but can't seem to find it right now. The board also has a tutorial on them.

Found the website for the chart.

Another idea would be making some squares on point for the next border. That might give you the extra width you are looking for.

I made an outdoor quilt made similar to yours but with duck panels. I finished it with a piano key border using up fabric that went with the rest of the quilt and I did put a narrow border before it as a prior quilter suggested. I would attach a photo but I can't seem to get that to work. I'm sure whatever you decide will look fine.

I made my own pattern for cabin blocks with trees between them for the top and bottom of the panel., flying geese to the sides, then border. We've been using it for years. Hope picture down loaded okay as first time did it
