Does anyone have a method for laying out a vine boarder????
I can't find anything on line on how to mark a vine boarder on a quilt...I want all four sides to match and can't think of a good method to accomplish this LOL I will be appliquing flowers on the stripes to cover where two vines come together but from there????

Take a lonnnng piece of paper. You may need to tape a couple sheets together, or get a roll of newsprint that's for kid's drawing surfaces. Cut a piece the length of one side. Fold the paper in half, and in half again until you get a length that's a good size for your vine repeat. Draw the vine on the top layer and cut thru all the layers. Should wind up with a pattern that you can now lay on your border & mark.

Do you want all four sides to match?? I saw this on F&P. Decide how long you can make your "S" in you border so that the ends end up in a curve in your corners. Cut a piece of freezer paper the length of you border. Mark you curves on both ends. Then fan fold it, draw you "S". Trim and you will have perfect matched curves. HOPE this helps. Not sure which F&P show it was on. Never thought of doing it that way but it works.

The Golden Threads lady has a nice tutorial on how to make a custom repeating border the right size. This You Tube video at about 5:10 tells how to do it:

For paper, you can buy hers. Her price is high but it's nice to support her, since she does offer an amazing tutorial.
You can also can get 50 yards of 12" wide light yellow tracing paper at Amazon for ~$9-11. http://www.amazon.com/Bienfang-Sketc...+tracing+paper

I went to our local News Paper Office. They sell the butt end rolls of their paper for next to nothing and there is a whole lot on it. I used to get it for my Grandchildren's easels when they were little, I have also used it to wrap my dishes when I moved. Now I use it in my Sewing Room.
