Default Ideas for One Yard Challenge....

In our senior center group we have a one yard challenge. It's where we each (7 of us)brought a yard of black and white fabric. We tore it in half and passed it to the right. Then the person on the right tore that piece in half and passed it to the right, etc. You get the picture.

Now the challenge...I have 7 pieces of varying amounts of black and white fabric. We are able to purchase one other piece of fabric of any amount we choose to add to the black and whites. We are to make something at least 39" by 40" with these pieces. So, I am asking what would you do with these pieces and one extra piece?

This challenge can be found at

http://www.heirloomcreations.net/sew...and-challenge/

I have written to the blogger to see what they have done with their challenge but they don't have pictures yet. Thanks, I hope this isn't cheating by asking for ideas....but I am just lost as to what to do with these b/w fabrics. Thank you for your help.

Sandy

Can you post a picture of your fabrics? It might help spark an idea because right now....I've got zip.

Sheesh, that is a challenge. All I can think of is some kind of medallion using the smallest piece in the middle and building out by size of fabric scrap. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Could you add a zinger color like hot pink, bright green, red, etc.? Then make some hst's, pinwheels or such to make a nice topper or runner.....

Love the idea and am going to steal it. I belong to a bee that loves swaps and challenges! I am blank on ideas of what to make, but I do agree that a bright color (red, yellow, pink) would pop.

I love that music fabric and would try not to cut it up too much. Maybe use it and the other large floral for the center squares of an Ohio Star? Use the darks as the star points.
Another idea I saw was with a large black/white floral border that a quilter wanted to tie into her black/white/yellow quilt by colouring it.You could colour in some of flowers on your one floral and match that to whatever extra fabric you decide to add?
