Maybe a New York Beauty and then you could use either embroidered or appliqued letters along a border.

If you Google "I love NY quilt" and then click on "images", you will find some ideas. I found this one:

I would ask what is it that you love about NY? Is it architecture, landscape, people, a special location? Let that guide you.

You might look for some fabric with taxi cars on it and work out something from there. Or you could-which I have seen-fabric with the NY skyline on it. Good luck. My husband is from NYC and there are alot of things that you could focus on maybe.

At our recent quilt retreat, a talented lady was making a New York quilt for a grandson in college there. She found images of the city and words spelling out Empire State Building etc. all in black and white. Then she added red sashing and it was great! Don't know the source, but probably can be found online.

Since New York is a lot more than NYC, you need to decide what you think of when you think of New York. I picture the Finger Lakes, the mountains, Niagara Falls and the Thousand Islands area. That's what I love about NY. What about you?

If you're expanding beyond the city, be sure to consider including something symbolic of the barge canal - such a wonderful piece of history that we love to travel on....

TY to all for the wonderful suggestions. I took PatPitter's suggestion and I am going to run with it-my favorite part of NY is the great Adirondacks. Have had a camp there and love it. I will keep you all posted on my progress. Happy stitching my friends!
