i'm sick over this!

last week while on vacation i made three rag quilts for my great nephews for christmas. washed them today and the one that gave me so much trouble from the start was washed separately due to it having a lot of red flannel in it. i put a color catcher in it but you guessed it - where it was light blue it is now the palest kinda rose color - definitely can't give it to the two year old BOY! so went out and bought more material to make him a new one - no red this time!

I'm sorry!!! I hope you have the time to whip up another one.
Try washing it a couple more times with a color catcher, it may help get some of the color out. Have you thrown it in the dryer yet????
I don't normally pre-wash my regular cotton fabrics but I always pre-wash my flannels. Even for a rag quilt. They shrink up and even hold their dyes differently.

tlp, don't give up just yet. There is a product called Synthrapol (sold in most LQS) that you can wash the quilt with and it can help remove that errant dye. Sometimes you need to wash it more than once. I'd use the Synthrapol and more Color Catchers.

i think i am going to try to whip up another one for him before christmas. not to worry - i just plan on using the damaged one to curl up with at home. it will be a constant reminder to pre-wash anything red - especially flannel! i am pretty good about prewashing except when i make my rag quilts.

i am so excited! a couple of weeks ago i found some dye remover at joanns and figured what the heck! it was only 50 cents a box -it was worth trying to save the quilt. washed it with the dye remover and all the pink disappeared!!!!! yea!
