bearisgray--my 9 inch finished sample above was made using the same size square for both the small 9 patches and the 4 patches (1 inch finished). The float space around the 4 patch when put in a square in a square is slightly larger (about 1/32 of an inch) but it doesn't seem to visually affect the results.

Angelina, our great minds are thinking alike -- I started cutting for a Judy Martin log cabin right before Christmas -- it's one of those in her new book, Paducah Log Cabin using pretty mostly turquoise with some pale greens and blues thrown in. It will be mostly batiks but not exclusively -- if the color works it's going in!

DDuMouchel, I would love to know what pattern you are working on. I am going to make the Summer Lake Log Cabin. I love blues and this will be my first "blue" quilt. I made this in purple and would like to make it in blue some day as well:

Angelina -- oh my. I love love love this big Ohio Star quilt! What a stunner.
I am going to be making the Paducah Log Cabin, different shades of teals, lavender, green and light blue with several different whites for background.

I know it's been a while but if you don't mind, I would also like the info on how you made the blocks larger. I find making such small block a little scarry. I just found this quilting board by searching for the Omigosh quilt. Thanks, Brenda

I've never done anything that tiny, but if I had a close-up for the pattern I could probably figure out a way to enlarge it.
One thing that often works for different divisions is to use graph paper with six squares to the inch, so you can get 1/2, 1/3, and 1/6 inch measurements (which you can't on four squares to the inch paper).
