Janome 6600 Straight Stitch Plate - Opinions, Please
For those of you with this machine, is it worth the extra $ to purchase a straight stitch plate? I'm wondering if it would make chain piecing easier? Thanks!

My 6600 came with two plates-one for zig zag and one for straight stitch, which has just a small hole for the needle to go through. Check your accessories- it should have been included. The manual lists all the things that came with it. Good luck.

You will probably get a lot of different opinions about this. I bought the straight stitch plate for my Bernina, got tired of the machine eating my fabric, I used starch and everything and nothing worked. However you do have to remember to change it, when your not just chain stitching. I have broken a couple of needles. My machine does'nt eat my fabric anymore!!

I bought my 6600 used, and it came with a straight stitch plate, which I use all the time. I have also broken a few needles when I have forgotten to change it! I find it makes a difference. I have a 3 piece free motion foot coming that I won on an ebay auction, and I can't wait to try it.

I would imgine that straight stich plate would prevent the machien eating your fabric... I have one on my kinmore, which is waiting to go into the shop right now... I will have to use it and see... I usually use the zigzag plate because I don't want to accidently break my needles...

I bought the straight stitch plate for my Janome 6500 and I found it made little difference. My machine still liked to pull threads down at the start, balked at seam junctions and veered off the seam line on thicker places.
