Default Janome Edge 15" cutter vs Brother Scan n Cut CM650W

I am thinking of buying the Janome Edge 15" cutter or the Brother SNC 650W to cut handapplique and quilt blocks. I use Electric Quilt 7 and would like to cutappliques using those designs. How would I do it? Also, I use Best PressUnscented (can’t use Terial Magic due to allergies). Thanks! Beth

best press will not be stiff enough to cut without adhesive, you need a heavy starch or something like terial magic, but you don't need any if using adhesive for fusible applique. There is a learning curve but there are lots of facebook groups and tutorials to help and dealer support for the scanncut. I do love that I don't need a computer to be hooked up to the scanncut like the silhouette. I have tried cutting both appliques with and without adhesive and was successful with both. The mats do lose their stick fast but there are tutorials to make them stick again which I haven't tried yet. I am very happy with my scanncut for fabric paper and vinyl

I don't have experience with either - I have the Silhouette and love it. I have used the Janome software and it was fairly weasy to use. Ditto what Dolphyngurl says, best press won't be stiff enough. Sorry that TerialMagic causes allergies, maybe use gloves? It's the only thing I have found that gives great and consistent cuts. Everything else is just plain frustrating. Also, I use 404 sprayed onto the mat to give it it's stick back.

One other thing - what does EQ7 export the applique pieces as? Will you have to scan in the PDF? Or does it export the shapes as SVG?

Thank you for the replies. Uncle Gravy, EQ7 exports files in enhanced metafile. I'd have to scan in the printed images of the applique from the program.
