The last time I went to mine(last week) they were very low on fabric, they were leaning toward Halloween stuff, crafts etc. Didn't find anything to buy.

    Ruth:

My Joanns is always chucked full of stuff way too crowded and yes I agree I can see where prices have gone up on some items and also the quallity of fabric isn't as nice you really have to look it over.
I have been buying more fabric at Hancocks.

    Keep quilting

My Joanns quilting dept. is the best seller so they moved it closer to the front of the store.
I find lots of fabrics to buy, just cant afford all of them.
I use coupons to buy all my gadgets and books for quilting. Saves alot of money.
Walmart has great prices on quilting tools so get some there also.

My Joanns is great usually. But when I was there in there last time their selection wasn't so great. Which is why I didn't buy more.

My Jo Annes closed by my house about a 1 year and half after it opened. SO now we have to travel oh not far but far enough to get what we want but the nice thing was my daughter went today signed up for the mailer and got 3 yds of fabric, 4 yds of fusible fleece, fat quarter and buttons for under $40.00. YIPE So not to bad when you can use the coupons.

I guess I'm lucky. While I only have one LQS nearby, my Joann's is nice. It's always clean and for as long as I can remember the entire length of one side of the store is fabric, I suppose it's "L" shaped, but I don't spend much time in the clothing-fabrics. There is plenty of wide open space and the only time you even notice more than one or two other people is when you're waiting for them to cut your fabric.

I love when my sale flyer comes, as it always has at least one 40% off coupon sometimes more. I've never heard of that "craft-item Ruth, perhaps I haven't been on the mailing list long enough? It's hard to figure out where some of the stuff is for the newbies, as the big names like Fons and Porter are in with the fabric, while the standard names of the same stuff, dritz ect are someplace else. We have two book sections that are good size, one is much more "crafty" and the other is once again buried in the fabric section. But truly, it's nice I would shop there everytime I was out if I could.

I haven't noticed a price hike, but years ago my mom did suspect that they mark stuff up to make up for when they put it onsale. I watch the flyers so often it's sometimes hard to use my 40% off coupon, because it's all on sale.

My neighbor told me you used to be able to mark the sale price back up to the reg. price and then get the 40% off, which a good part of the time would have been the better deal, but they haven't done that since I've been quilting.

The Joanne's near me "remodeled", and now the store is 1/3 scrapbooking, 1/3 crafts, and 1/3 fabric. They got rid of the fine art supplies, and most of the discount fabric. The calico wall is only 2/3 as big as it was, and in order to get through the checkout area, you have to negotiate your cart through racks of "dollar-store" items.

There must be a huge markup on scrapbooking supplies, the way they are pushed on us everywhere.

The JoAnn's closed here. I was new to this area, and didn't know there was one in the city. By the time I found out there was one, it was closing. Walmart still has fabric here, but they will be doing away with it very soon. It is getting harder and harder to get fabric in our area. I do buy online, but I like it better if I can see and touch the fabric.

I went ot Joann's 2 weeks ago. I was looking for Christmas fabric I liked one in particular till i saw the price. It was $12.99 yard. That is ridicolous more expensive than the quilt shop. Asked the ladu why so much she said they have very little competition and can charge whatever they want. I WILL NOT BE GOING TO jOANNS MUCH LONGER IF THE PRICES GO UP THAT HIGH.
