I charge 1.5cent/sq. in. and custom starts a 2 cents. 50 mi. south of me it is 1/2 cent higher.

In my area the leading long armer for pantographs gets .075 per inch. The LQS charges 1.5 cents per inch for the same thing. The LQS has a more complicated array of patterns.

I have not asked for custom as these prices are as much as I can afford.

there is a list in classified's here on the board- organized by location-
you should look through the list- look at people's work- then send the ones you are interested in a pm asking for (their) prices/policies. there is a vast difference in pricing across the country/ dependant on a number of things- some charge by the square inch-some by the whole size,
some by the pattern used-
everyone has their own policies-prices-

How does the LAQ keep track of how many inches of thread they have used on your quilt?

Per square inch of quilt....so if your quilt measures 90x90, that's 8100 square inches, or $121.50
:)

Thanks.
I always thought it was far more complicated than that.

to figure out the square inches of your quilt you multiply the length times width = square inches= then you multiply that by what ever the person is charging for (by the square inch) for the cost.

I'm in Rural SW MN and I charge .01 per square inch for edge to edge and .015 for custom (or .0175 for complex custom). I don't know what some of the others around here charge--one only does heirloom quilting and so I know that is a higher rate. And I don't know what the other one charges. I know an hour away they are .02 for custom work. We are rural, though--I'm sure it is more in the Cities (which is a couple hours away from me). I just did a quilt for someone from the Cities because she said I was way cheaper and she had seen my work at my local Quilt Shop that I quilt for so she was comfortable having me quilt for her.
