I'm not sure how far MaryJo's in Gastonia is from there (Southwest of Charlotte), but it is definitely worth a shop. It's not just a LQS but a 30000 sq ft store!

It is a long way from Gastonia to Maggie Valley. There is a neat quilt shop in Maggie Valley, I think the name is Quilters Heaven, it is on the right just before Maggie Valley.
Pigeon Forge has a couple quilt shops The Cherry Pit is in town. I can't remember the name of the other shop I like this one. Check the local phone book for the name. You will like both shop. Have fun.

If you head into Asheville, there are several.

As far as quilt shops there is Asheville Cotton Co. If you head a little farther away, Marti's Patchwork Cottage is a cute little shop in downtown Black Mountain.

Foam & Fabrics and House of Fabric both carry a decent collection of quilting fabrics too.

Asheville Cotton Co., Foam & Fabrics, and House of Fabric are all on the same road, spread out by several miles, and the road changes names several times.
