Does anyone have experience with Embird and if so, can you recommend it. I want a program which will allow me to split designs so I can embroider bigger designs using multiple hoopings.

We have a professional embroidery shop and my daughter uses it all the time. We love it.

You can try Embird for free for a good period of time - give it a try.
I use it, but I'm not very good at digitizing. I keep saying I'm going to learn to do it but end up doing other things instead...

Give it a try ;)

Your screen name gave me a start! My BFF was GLS 235. She just died in May. She had used that as her screen name and email address for at least 15 years. Gave me a weird feeling.
