With such differing opinions on what is pretty, your idea of sending her quilts drawn off EQ, let her color them in, then buy the fabric, so it really will be what she wants.

Longarm quilters who free hand quilt often begin by drawing, doodling, zentangling, coloring.... I have stacks of coloring books and refer to them use them constantly as a quilter. Great for trying out colors, designs, appliques, quilt piecing and quilting inspiration. Coloring certainly isn't just for non- quilters .

Another idea is to have her send you swatches of the room color and maybe have her pick the feature fabric. Then you could add to it.

I love your idea! Will really become a collaborative effort with you, your daughter and grandson.

What is EQ? Is it something you have to purchase? Costly?

EQ is electronic quilting program. It is not necessary but many see it as a "nice to have". Fairly expensive. I believe the current versions is EQ7.

Just make sure she understands the buy 100% quilting cotton. I told my daughter that and she bought everything but cotton. It's a good thing it didn't happen to be for a quilt.

That is a great idea for someone to just color a pattern, then you know just what they want!

I love that they are purchasing the material. So many people want a homemade quilt but have no idea of the cost.
