In need af an answer regarding walking foot.

I have a singer walking foot. I back stitch all the time but sometimes I just lift it a tiny bit and stitch in place a couple times. My only problem is the back slips off once in a while and the walking part comes off. Really thinking about a new one but I've had this one for quite of few years and it came with some other stuff I bought at a second hand store. I just have to watch out for the slip off.

I did not know that one should not back stitch with a walking foot; but it makes sense that you shouldn't. I have been back stitching with the walking foot on my Bernina for ten years. So far, I have not had a problem. Guess I'll go to stitching in place at the beginning and end. Thanks for the information.

My Janome dealer says it is not a good idea to use any decorative stitches that go backwards with the accu-feed foot, so I'm assuming that also means backstitching on a regular basis. You know what they say about assuming though...lol.

I have a Juki also, and in reading various topics tonight I came across some saying you should not back stitch with a walking foot (which I have been doing). So, I took out the manual and it does not say you should not back stitch. I may call the shop where I bought the machine, or call or email Juki directly. I will post the anser they give me.
I was wondering if you all back stitch with your walking foot?
My Juki manual says nothing about it but my Brother machine
says you should not.
The reason I,m asking is I have been locking in my stitches and
the foot, (Juki) is starting to make a groaning noise, (only way to
describe it) and you can hear it from other rooms.
I,m wondering if I did something wrong in doing this or not.
I appreciate input from all you experts.
Thanks,
Elaine
