Default Need help sizing a small block

I worked most of yesterday afternoon trying to make a 4 1/2" unfinished "churn dash" block and just got so frustrated I threw it all away. Can someone please help me with the cutting sizes? I would also be happy with a smaller block-3 1/2" unfinished. I am working on the RxR Itty Bitty quilt and I am adding different blocks for every row. Thanking you all in advance for any help given.

Can you draw it out on draft paper to the finished size and then add 1/4" seam allowances?

Or maybe Google the size block you need and look for cutting directions?

A churn dash block is basically a 9 patch layout, so you need 3 patches across and 3 down. 4" finished is not easily divided by 3, as each patch needs to finish at 1.33333". A better way to go would be a 3" or 4.5" FINISHED block.
For a 3" finished, all the patches need to finish at 1", so cut your HST squares 2", then square the HSTs to 1.5", which will finish at 1". Cut the center 1.5" X 1.5", and cut the center side pieces 1" X 1.5"

Here are PDFs for four inch finished and three inch finished blocks. I made them in EQ7, so you'll want to make a test sample of each to see how they measure. EQ does round measurements, so you could make test blocks and then either add a smidge or subtract a smidge if you need to.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you everyone. I really do appreciate all of you giving me some outlets to go to and to work with to get this small block made. I knew you all would come thru for me. The QB members and quilters are the best and most generous people. I even bought a book yesterday at JoAnn's that had a 4" finished basket block and came home and made a couple small blocks-turned out great but such small pieces. My oh My-why did I start this tedious project???!!!! Once again-thank you all.

RxR Itty Bitty quilt is a quilt that has rows of small blocks in each row. I am making 4" and 3" finished blocks. I am using repo 30's fabric and I am having fun doing the small blocks but very tedious. If you go to Blocks of the Week and Month you can go to the bottom of the page and click on archives and you can find it about half way down the list and I think you will see the tutorials there. Good luck.
