I am making a double wedding ring quilt for my daughter who was married in October. I made too many rings. So I want to turn some of the extras into two pillow shams. I have never made pillow shams and I am unsure how to do this. If they were just plain squares I could do it. But not sure with the rings.

Do I make them into little quilts first?
How do I put on the back pieces for the pillow without showing a square on the front?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I will post a picture of the quilt, which is still in progress, soon.

I would at least turn them into blocks before and go on to make th epillow from there. I made a pillow case from a small quilt and is my favorite.

There are four patterns here, click on the list to the right of the pictures to see them, click on the orange PDF download to save/print it out.

Just sew your blocks together to make the same sized piece as the front pieces to the pattern, you may have to add a border around them to bring them up to size

Edit** I guess it would help to include the website LOL

You could make them into small quilts (except for the binding) and sew another piece of fabric on the back envelope style.

Here is a tute how. You could just put seams in where only the front is the rings.

    Hope this helps!

Are you going to cover little square pillows or the sleeping pillows? If it's little square ones I would make a square the size you want, quilt it and then instead of binding,I would take 2 pieces of backing material (each about 2/3 size of the real square) finish one edge on each. You would then overlap the finished edges until the two fit the quilted front, sew completely around it, trim edges and corners, flip and insert your pillow form.

If on the other hand you want to fit the sleeping pillow you would put enough blocks together to fit the appropriate pillow, quilt and then either do as above or use 1 piece backing and procede to make an envelope(& you will have to bind one edge)

Of course this is the simple version, I didn't put in about cording, ruffles or "extras".

    Just old fashioned home ec.
