My husband had an operation last spring to remove a very aggresive melanoma. Last week, DH went for a follow up exam and while there, the Dr. did two biopsies and sent him for a CT scan. Well of course, we were on pins and needles. Now hubby has been on night shift and we turn the phone off until time for him to get up. When we checked for messages yesterday, there was a request to call the physician's assistant. Now it had only been two days since the biopsy and we of course assumed the worst immediately. It was already past time for the office to close so we knew we had to wait til morning. Then I remembered that I had a card given to us in the spring with a cell phone number on it. Thinking it was the assistant, I called only to have the Dr. answer. I explained why I called and was told he was about to go into surgery and would have to call me back. Well I thought that was the last we would hear last night. Two hours later the phone rang and it was the Dr. He said he had gone back to his office after finishing the surgery and reviewed the file for DH. He didn't want us to spend the night worrying because everything came back clear. What a blessing he is!

So the suggestions I need are about what I can make him as a thank you for going out of his way? Should I make a wall hanging, a lap quilt, placemats, what? I don't know anything about his tastes or home life. I really want to do something but just can't decide what to do.

How about some homemade muffins in one of those quilted baskets? And congratulations on the good news.

Hello, my mom is a retired RN so if this Doc is anything like most medical people he spends most of his time at the hospital. So maybe a mug rug with a coffee cup would be nice.

What a wonderful man to help ease your worries - Bless his heart

Maybe ask his office staff what kinds of things he likes ?

Does he drink coffee ? Maybe a mug with a mug rug ?

What a kind compassionate man, to have made sure he could ease your worries after having been in surgery!

I'm sorry that I don't have much in the way of a suggestion for a "Thank-you' gift. The only physician-related thing that pops to mind are the pictures Norman Rockwell did! I'm sure he would appreciate a nice warm quilt to wrap up in and catch some Zzzz's when he has a break during a long shift!

Prayers for a Happy & Healthy New Year for your DH and you!

It's good to know there are still docs like that around. The mug and mug rug are a great idea. Does he have a couch in his office? Maybe a lap quilt to use if he can sneak a nap in between surgeries.

HUGE CONGRATS on the clear results!!!!!

Walmart has some pretty cool fabric with Bugs Bunny in a white lab coat saying ''whats up doc''. About 5 bucks a yard. I used it to make a small table runner and mug rugs for my Veternarians. Combine the mug rugs and coffee cups with some really good Starbuck coffees or hot chocolates and be sure to sign the thank you card.....he will really enjoy what ever you do!!
