I am going to redo this chair that I picked up at a yard sale for $5. I was just going to sand it and paint it, then recover it. Then I had an AHA! moment. I remember seeing furniture that had been recovered in quilts and thought THATS what Im going to do. Heres the post about it http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-38832-1.htm Ive spend about 3 weeks looking online and in my books and magazines looking for the right pattern. Ive narrowed it down to these 3, Cathedral windows, the pineapple block or this one http://www.modabakeshop.com/search?q=1800%27s (finished size is 20 by 20 so I will have to make it a little bigger) I will be painting the chair a crisp white and thought about doing the quilt in black and whites. What are your thoughts on this? Different pattern, colors, both? Oh and anyone recognize the quilt on the bed?

OH, I'm so happy for you!!! Ever since I saw that post (one of the first few I saw when I showed up here!) I have been keeping an eye out for something vintage to make a quilted chair for!!!

It would depend on how much the chair will be used...You may want to use home dec. weight fabrics and heavier thread. I have done a bit of upholstery work. That chair should be fairly easy to do. If you use black and white, think about using a colored piping to set it off...like red or whatever fits in your color scheme... :D

The chair will be in my bedroom and wont get much use at all, I have a table to go beside it that is black and the top is black and white toile so thats why I decided to go with black and white. But, I can easily change the top. Plus after looking through my material, I have alot of black, but I could go with blues and yellows too!

    I love your idea!!! :D:D:D

I wonder about the seams in a Cathedral Window? Are you going to stitch them all down (around the windows) or leave them loose? Left loose they may not be comfortable to sit on and the sliding motion of getting in/out of the chair may distort them over time...

The detail work on the chair is so pretty. That's one reason I love old furniture so much. I have a hard time picturing a busy pattern on it. I wouldn't do anything quilty but that's just me.

Before you recover it, turn it over and look real good for a stamp or signature. It may be an antique worth a lot of $. It so, don't recover it, it will lose it's value.

Otherwise, I love your idea! :D

That chair is just like a chair my mother used to have. I think it would be pretty in which ever pattern you choose.
