I also press my seams open. It makes seams easier to match. People used to press seams to one side because it made a stronger seam when piecing was done by hand. With our sewing machines now, seams are very strong and can be pressed open with no problem. It also makes hand quilting easier because there aren't as many thicknesses to quilt through.

I do both. I press to one side when I want opposing seams. It makes it easier for me to get corners alined. I press flat when there is a lot of bulk or the darker fabric would get pressed to the light, as in sewing rows together.

Ok now I got it I was putting the circle and trying to hand stiche the pionts around it ok I will try it your way thanks . I'll bet that it will be alot better than what I was doing....

I also press most of my seams open....guess I'm an old school gal! But have used the pressing to one side method for certain patterns..

I watched a show on dresden plates and they suggested pressing those seams open so there wasn't so much of a "bunching" in the center.
