I know that another member bought this panel, I also have this with some matching material and would like some ideas of what to do with it. The colours are lovely but I am afraid to make a mess of it. Hope the link works.

Hi,

You can make great wallhangings with them. You could even make a bed sized quilt. Just use the panel as the center and add as many borders as it takes to make the size you want. You could surround the panel with simple pieced borders, log cabin blocks, nine patches or even 4 patches and then solid borders in various widths. I usually add just one border and then handquilt the hanging. They make lovely seasonal decorations. I have a small quilt hanging rack on the wall between my kitchen and living room. I have a half dozen seasonal quilts I rotate hanging there throughout the year.

I am a sucker for panels. This one needs nothing to be a great wallhanging. I would layer it and quilt it as it is. I am not sure what is your expertise with freehand maching quilting, but I would either take a neutral color and quilt the whole thing with it or change colors as the panel changes colors. For example, quilt the cardinal with red, the finch with yellow and the blue bird with blue. You can pick a standard green for all the leaves and match the fruits around them. I would quilt it following the designs on the fabric. Either outline each bird and fruit or for even more detail, go inside each design and quilt every detail of the print. Don't be afraid, if you match the colors it will not alter the desing a bit. I have also been using the Steady Stuff (stabilizer from Ricky Tims) for my wallhangings and when I am done, spray with water and iron it dry. The stabilizer gets really soft, like a layer of flanel, and the wallhanging is very steady. Then bind it as you would any quilt.

A round robin style is exactly what I was thinking also. I went to www.quiltshops.com, chose item search, put in wild wings, chose thumbnails and got a bunch of wildlife panels like that available at different shops.

I liked this one especially for horse lovers.

I have that panel and bought it at Walmart for I think, $5.99.
I'd check your local Walmart first to see if they had it instead of buying it for more on ebay.

I bought it to make a wallhanging. There is also coordinating fabric that goes with it.

Tirnhi, if we had Walmarts like yours in England I think I would be their best customer. Karen , where is your avatar of?
I only do hand quilting at the moment but I have just ordered the saphire 870 but am under no illusions about being able to master machine quilting quickly I know it will take some time. So I think I will see if I have any co ordinating plain fabric to match to put a border round then finish with a border of the matching fabric, at the moment I am getting pleasure just looking at it.
