Default Panel Push

I'm attempting to put together a lap sized quilt using panel pieces. Do you have a website where you plan out/design your quilt? I don't have a design wall, but I do have some floor space which is why I'd love to know of a website resource. Thank you!

I'm looking at joining:
1 center panel (22 5/8x36 3/4")
54 small block panels (4 1/2x6")
15 medium block panels (7 1/2x7 1/2")
2 longish panels (6 1/2x11 1/2")
I have coordinating yardage too & plan to add hst w said yardage to fill in if possible.

Too ambitious?

Ideally, you would want to have all the block sizes easily divisible by the same number so they would fit. You might want to consider padding them out so they all finish at a multiple of 6" So you would pad the center panel out to 24.5 X 36.5 (trim 1/4" from the long side). Small blocks: make them square at 6.5 X 6.5 medium blocks 12.5 X 12.5, and the long panels 6.5 X 12.5. I would use a neutral color for the padding, white, cream, grey, black...
I don't know of a site that you could use. I would go with graph paper.

Thank You. I'm going to try to graph it out. Do you ever use a program or a website?

I use EQ, but it's not free. There are a couple of free apps, you can search the app store for quilting apps. I don't use them very often, so can't tell you which ones might do what you want.

Instead of using graph paper, I would put the center panel on the floor, if this is your design wall. Then I would cut pieces of paper out of the size of each of the other parts and lay them around the center. Then see what kind of sashing sizes you could need to connect all of them. Or, lay out all your parts of fabric on a very large piece of fabric and applique them down. You can use steam-a-seam lite (if it is still available) and iron the pieces on the backing fabric. Then use a blanket stitch to overcast and finish the edges.

Even though you dont have design wall, there are some cheap and easy options to make one. My favorite cheap easy up, easy up easy to take down, is a dollar store or WalMart flannel backed picnic tablecloth. just pin to the wall, vinyl side to the wall, flannel back out.. and your piecing will stick to easily. When done , just take it down, fold it up for another day.

equilter.com has a ton of free patterns, and many of them use panels. Even if it's not the panel that you're using, you might find a design that pleases you.
