Tks. This site was very helpful. It looked like a Texas Star to me, but I couldn't tell if the eagle was appliqued or part of the diamonds. I guess I'll have to play with it. In the meantime, our group bought Rob Appel's "Eagle over Alaska" so that we would have the eagle applique if we do this quilt. It will be interesting.

It is definitely pieced and not a panel, you can see the piecing seams in the eagle. It is entirely possible it is an original design or something someone came up with on EQ. When perusing Maniac's link I found one that looked a lot like this but lead to a dead end. I did find one that lead to a link for a pattern but the eagle's position was slightly different. Just as striking but it would take some work to change the star to be like the picture you posted. Both are a very clever manipulation of the diamonds in the lone star. Here is a link to the layout of the diamond units I found (takes a while to load)

Would still take some figuring out to strip piece.

And here is a link to the picture of it I found on Pinterest

About having trouble loading: I was having so much trouble with my pictures loading I went to my IT man for help. He did some things and charged me, but it didn't help. THEN he told me that my provider is extending its customer base beyond their ability to deliver quality service. They are overextended. So I called my provider. They said for $10 more per month they could upgrade my service. Well I did that, and it has helped tremendously. But I also have another option to find another company. I just might do that. But I think the $10 is well spent, as it has brought down my blood pressure! I sure was getting frustrated waiting for pictures to load.

Feline is correct with the pdf pattern...there are split diamonds in them...funny as I was just chatting back and forth with the person who offered the pattern for free...her grandmother was the original designer....If someone would like her name let me know.....

I have a pattern for a very big star but it does not have the eagle and flag in it. That looks like it is satin also. OMG what a project!
