I am getting my machine soon and would like some advice on what thread to use for the quilting. I want to do my practicing with the brand of thread I am going to use so that any problems that come up won't be repeated if I change thread types.

Hi and welcome from Washington state. Congratulations on your longarm machine as well. Alot of people will tell you that certain machines like certain threads so it might depend on what type of machine you have. I have a Gammill and I am very lucky it does well with everything I have tried. I prefer Signature thread because it sews nicely, looks great and is decently priced. Also it will depend on the type of quilting you are doing if you want the thread to show more or less. I also use Superior, King Tut, Lava but like Signature the most.

    Good luck,

Congrats, you'll have fun! I have an HQ Avante, and have used thread from Connecting Threads, Superior Threads, Isacor, all cotton, and metallic threads. As long as I use correct needle, adjust my tension top & bottom, it likes it all. I'll use anything that looks good with what I am quilting.

I just dropped off the deposit, they said the machine should be in on Tues or Wed of next week. Now I have to clean the room it's going into!!

Don't limit yourself to one thread! I use all kinds of threads, but my most used in the upper thread are King Tut, So Fine!, and Isacord.

I nearly always use either the Bottom Line or Filtec Magna Glides in my bobbin.

Check with your dealer. Many times a longarm machine will come with a cone of thread to begin with. If you are willing to adjust tension, top and bobbin, you can use whatever thread you like.
