This was discouraging because I had hoped to find the perfect marking method.

This may sound "dumb" but under what conditions would your quilt "freeze?"..I don't know girls, but if it's so cold your quilt freezes, I don't think I'd be worried about the markings...:)..couldn't resist..:)
