Hey guys :) Ok, i have two pieces of poly batting that i need to join together for a quilt i'm making, don't have a large enough piece lol. What's an easy way to join the two battings? I have whip stitched before, very time consuming, if i have to again, i will. I know some have suggested just ironing a strip of fusible interfacing to join them, good idea, but i dont have any lol. Some have said just machine join with a zig zag stitch, but i tried that with a tiny scrap of batting, and the poly batting wants to get all caught in the feed dogs and in the pressure foot. Do you think if i use my darning foot, that that would work? Cus then the feed dogs would be down, and the foot would hopefully be jumping over the batting rather than getting caught in it. Or, should i just whip stitch it lol ? :)

I just trim both pieces even , butt them up against each other and zigzag . Mine don't get caught in the feed dogs , but try a napkin or a dryer sheet underneath and see if that helps . Annie

Barb i am always piecing, mine keep getting caught also, what i do is overlap the edge and zig zag and no problem then i trim the edge that is not stitch which is about a 1/4 of a inch or less it works great

Fusible may not work any way on polybatting...the iron will compress the batting on most. You may want to think about the sticky backed type that is available.

Jerrie, where it's overlapped, does that make the batting thicker, or does the stitching press it down enough maybe so it all seems the same height?

Thanks Amma, that's a good idea. I will remember that. Right now i'm just working with what i have, which is batting and thread lol :) :)

I just read about that in a different post. I believe the solution was to use a ligthweight fusible interfacing and iron a thin strip over the matched seam. This was done using the cotton batting, not polyester.
