thank you for the info. will go look soon. gotta love this

scraphq 09-15-2011 07:32 AM

Amazing how this binding went from 200 INCHES to 200 YDS!

amyjo 09-15-2011 07:34 AM

she did a typo from her intro to the story. quite sure you can't get 200 YARDS from 1/2 yard of 34 inches of fabric. The math doesn't add up for me anyway.

darlin1942 09-15-2011 08:08 AM

I am sure that a first time poster should be cut some slack, I hit the wrong keys. SORRY!!!!!!!! BUT IT IS STILL A GOOD FIND.

virtualbernie 09-15-2011 08:26 AM

I make my binding this way except I use a square instead of a rectangle. I love it!

buslady 09-15-2011 09:58 AM

Just to add, if you take the triangle that you cut off the one end and sew it back on the other end, so you have a "crooked" rectangle, there is NO waste. It really is cool!

alikat110 09-15-2011 10:05 AM

Thanks. I always hate sewing my cut strips!!! Definately gonna do this

lynnie 09-15-2011 10:29 AM

thanks bookmarked this one

AUQuilter 09-15-2011 10:29 AM

Thank you so much for posting this! I have to put a binding on a quilt that should have been finished already. So I am using this video today! I have really learned alot from postings. Thanks again.

annthreecats 09-15-2011 10:45 AM

Wow, I'm bookmarking this.

HomespunHandmaiden 09-15-2011 11:59 AM

I love the Missouri Star Quilt Co 's videos! They make it all look so simple!

kwilter 09-15-2011 12:08 PM

Thanks, darlin1942 for your post. Knew right away you really meant inches. I just wish my tired old eyes could get more from the video although MDQC states they may do it over...urging them to hurry!

Susanna10 09-15-2011 01:00 PM

thank you. bookmarked it.

piepatch 09-16-2011 03:21 AM

I have seen that video, and saved it. I have always known there was a way to do that, but have never tried it. The next time I need bias binding, I will definitely use that method.

lillybeck 09-16-2011 04:55 AM

This was a great tute. Thanks

Just watched it and it's a good one- as always! I love the way Jenny does tutes.

mimee4 09-16-2011 06:11 AM

Good video. Thank you for sharing.

Iamquilter 09-16-2011 06:15 AM

Isn't this the same way you make bias binding? That's the way I have made my bias bindings in the past.

matraina 09-16-2011 06:21 AM

All of the Missouri Star Quilting tutorials are excellent!!!!!!!!!!

Barb44 09-16-2011 06:23 AM

This is not a new technique. I have been making bias binding like this since I learned to quilt in 1982. Some techniques don't get passed on to new quilters and then when they find them they think they are new. I think it was in Georgia Bonesteel's Lap Quilting book that I learned it.

I have that little gizmo and love it. It was some of the best money I've ever spent on quilting notions.

I think the operative word is "continuous" bias binding. Lots of people cut strips on the bias and sew the individual strips together. That's why I love the "continuous" binding method and have used it always because I'm too lazy to sew all those strips together! I have a chart somewhere that tells you how big to make the block to yield the most yardage of bias binding--now I have to start hunting... :x

Grandma Libby 09-16-2011 06:25 AM

i can't find that video where you said to look. Can you post it or let me know by PM, please. (the one on the "binding"....)

patdesign 09-16-2011 06:27 AM

Yup, This produces a nice long strip of bias trimming. However the offset does produce some short bias cuts as well as long ones. I still prefer cutting it on the grain for quilt binding. Jenny does have some wonderful videos and techniques tho.:)

I do this - and what you end up with is a parallelogram and again no waste as buslady said.

Here is a great resource

http://quiltbug.com/articles/binding-calculator.htm

Geri B 09-16-2011 06:58 AM

that is good for bias binding...don't use that much-only on rounded edges........the first time I saw that way of doing a bias binding was in the back of some quilting magazine way back when...I prefer using straight french fold for quilts....just my way.

Impossible mathematically. 200 yards is 7200 inches. 7200 x 2.5 is 18000 square inches. 8 x 34 is 612 square inches.

Thanks, I've seen this done in books but it always looked complicated. This makes it a lot easier!
