I've been looking for some patterns for chicken scratch embroidery. I have found the following site but was wondering if anyone has any other sources. The google wasn't much help.

I did one piece of chicken scratch a long, long time ago and it's been in the back of my mind to do more for a quilt. Hmm. Not something that's on the agenda for today but in the future *sometime*. :lol: (That famous "I wanna do" list!)

I looked it up and read up on it, and from everything I read ,you use any pattern that is used for cross stitch. show us when you have a block

there are needlepoint and crewel stitches that would work well, too.

We are doing Chicken Scratch here in CentralFlorida. We have a fairly new quilt shop in Haines City (near here). Pat is from England and has been open around 2 yrs or so. One of her quilting friends brought in a Queen size quilt with 13 blocks of Ch. Scratch and the other 12 blocks are with the color matching your gingham check and a neutral background. This block is called the Irish Chain. Squares are about 16.5-17" and of course will need to be squared up. Pat ordered the books we are using from Pegasus Originals. There are a few patterns on the net. Everyoe is working at their own speed. I loved the quilt on display but find the Chicken Scratch"very slow". The hardest part is counting and graphing your pattern. But keep on searching on all of the search engines and I am sure you will find something you like. :wink:

Thank you, Sharon. I always hesitate to order from unknown sources. But will consider doing that now that I know someone else has. :wink:
My sister has taken up the search and has found several sites that talk about chicken scratch. She obviously searches better than I do!
Please post some pictures of your effort. I would love to see what you're working on.

All kinds of needle crafts. The prices are also very reasonable, cross stitch of all kinds :D

Yvonne....I use to do chicken scratch and cross stitch on Gingham years ago. It was very popular at that time and there were a lot of patterns for aprons, pillow cases and bureau scarfs(I'm dating myself). It would be very easy to adapt the patterns for a quilt. Since I don't throw anything away...I think I might have some of the patterns .... if I can find them. I'll let you know.

Thank you so much. I think I'm all set though. I went back to the pegasus web site and they referred me to an online store in Washington and I just ordered three books this morning. :P

I actually found my very old (at least 20 years) pattern book yesterday and one completed block. Of course now my sewing room is topsy-turvey from all the hunting! Funny how I get a bee in my bonnet and it just starts buzzing around and makes me nuts!

I visited JoAnn's this morning and have my gingham all purchased and ready to go. Just waiting for the postman!

I will have to get an update for my camera. I was trying toinstall on my laptop but the puter said i needed my start up disc. :( I can't find my directions but hopefully I can get the updates off of the web. I have never posted pictures but look forward to learning.
