I have even made the top and bottom borders larger than the side borders to make a rectangle quilt.
It works!! Love the way some of you added to your quilts to make them longer. I like rectangle
quilts too.

I do both. It depends on what size quilt I am making and for what size bed.

A lot of older quilts are made square but they didn't have queen size and larger. They also had fancy pillows to display. I have a couple and one in progress (barely) and they're good for TV or something. I have added some end pieces to extend the length a little and that works out well, too. I just finished one that I used 3" leftover strips on the top and bottom and it looks fine.....just seems to blend in.

Here is how I made my square quilt a rectangle. I put my inside border all the way around, then added a 4 inch strip of the outer border to the top and bottom, then added the inner border to that and finished with the outside border. Looks like it is part of the original design.

Hey, I recognize that quilt! It's one of mine!! And, I did make it longer by adding 2"squares in two rows at the top and bottom.
