I've never made a quilt before! So after 61 years of running around doing all the have to things! I'm gonna give it a try! Wish me luck! Now my question is "Where do I start?" Besides Jo Ann's and the local branch of my bank for the stuff to pay for it all.! So what's the quilt to start for a newbe?
Thanks everyone! for your answers in advance.

I am also a beginner and I just made the disappearing 9 patch quilt top with fat quarters, was so much fun!

Do you really want to start with a quilt? You might like to try something smaller - say a cushion or a small lap/baby quilt?

Welcome from Southern Illinois! You will have lots of help here, all you need to do is ask, usually MANY will answer.

Welcome from Ireland. I like rail fence or pinwheel for beginners.

A cutting mat (self-healing and as large as you can afford),
a rotary cutter with a couple replacement blades,
a sewing machine, fabric, and at least a 6"x12" ruler, some thread and a pattern should be enough to get you started.
If you want to make a quilt, make one, just remember that "Quilt In A Day" is a name, not a reality--it will take longer. Pick a simple pattern and go for it.

The basic supplies are already listed . As for pattern/fabric do you know who you want this quilt for ? Sometimes I just walk around the store and let the fabric talk to me  if you have a library go there and look for quilt books, especially how to or beginner books.

You will also get a lot of help and advice here

Simple patterns are the basic 4 patch or 9 patch, Rail fence. I would start small and simple. Don't get discouraged we all make mistakes and you just learn form them .

But the most important thing is relax and HAVE FUN !
