I really need some advice on the borders for this quilt. It is made from batik 2 1/2" strips in chocolate and teal with a cream background. Which looks better for a 2" border next to the quilt, the teal or brown. The border fabric combines both of these colours. I have enough of each to do either the inner border or the binding. Thanks for your advice.

I like number 1.

I like number one. Very pretty fabrics.

MadQuilter 07-13-2013 08:27 AM

The first one is warmer, the second one cooler. It all depends on which direction you want to go. I like #2.

MamaBear61 07-13-2013 08:29 AM

I choice would be #2 and that is odd because I very seldom pick shades of blue over anything.

twinkie 07-13-2013 08:29 AM

Very nicely done. I love #1

sue.ross.8782 07-13-2013 08:29 AM

number one is better to my eye.

bigsister63 07-13-2013 08:36 AM

#1- brown!!!!!!!!!!!!

bjchad 07-13-2013 08:39 AM

Another vote for #1

kareno 07-13-2013 08:40 AM

I like the first one also

Emma S 07-13-2013 08:44 AM

I like the dark blue (#2) because the brown in the quilt is dominant and the blue brings out the other blues more.

irishrose 07-13-2013 08:46 AM

#2. #1 is too close to the color of some of the fabrics in the quilt and they colors bleed together, IMO. I like #2 better with the pretty floral batik in the wide border, too.

Raine54RN 07-13-2013 08:49 AM

Well ill have to be different, I like the blue. I think it flows nicely.

DebraK 07-13-2013 08:57 AM

either way works, but I think I like #2 a smidge better.

leaha 07-13-2013 09:08 AM

#1 with the darkest color on the out side to act like a frame, to keep the eye on the quilt and not wonder off

QuiltnNan 07-13-2013 09:31 AM

i like the teal near the center and brown for the binding

Sailorwoman 07-13-2013 09:37 AM

Another vote for number 1.

Tartan 07-13-2013 09:37 AM

I vote for # 2. It lets the pattern of the quilt show more. When I look at the first one, all I notice is the brown.

Luv Quilts and Cats 07-13-2013 10:28 AM

I like number 1

Prism99 07-13-2013 12:26 PM

The first one for me too. The blue in the second one is so dark it "stops" the quilt before your eye travels to the border.

mom-6 07-13-2013 12:36 PM

Which color do you want to emphasize?
If you use the brown it dominates heavily.
If you use the teal, you see both better.

justflyingin 07-13-2013 12:47 PM

I also vote nr. 2.

nygal 07-13-2013 01:04 PM

I vote for #1 also.

ube quilting 07-13-2013 01:07 PM

The first choice would be my pick. Has more life in it. Very nice quilt.
peace

EDIT: I think I am going to change my mind on this one. After looking at them again and again, I think I do like the second one better.

decky 07-13-2013 02:35 PM

I think I like the brown, it sets the quilt off.

I like #1 the best.

suebee 07-13-2013 02:59 PM

#1 has my vote!! very pretty for sure

Bluelady 07-13-2013 03:24 PM

second one! the blue looks wonderful next to it and has a richer contrast.

0tis 07-13-2013 03:28 PM

I like border #2 - that blue really sets it off.

IQ2 07-13-2013 03:37 PM

#1 has my vote. Coincidentally I'm currently working on a quilt that has those same colors in it. I think the brown brightens the colors in the border print and the dark teal provides a perfect finial for the quilt.

ArtsyOne 07-13-2013 03:55 PM

I like #1, but I would make it narrower than 2" - maybe 1/2-1/4".

QandE2010 07-13-2013 04:13 PM

I like #2.

patchsamkim 07-13-2013 04:30 PM

I like #1 the best...gives a warmer look to the quilt.

QUILTNMO 07-13-2013 05:35 PM

i also like 1

redquilter 07-13-2013 05:56 PM

I like them both. The first seems to make the quilt brighter while the second seems to subdue it a bit. But both are pleasing to my eye.

KarenJ 07-14-2013 02:46 AM

I like the first better.

lclang 07-14-2013 03:49 AM

#1, better contrast!

kaelynangelfoot 07-14-2013 03:50 AM

That is a tough decision. What a beautiful quilt! I would choose #2 if it was my quilt, because the blue is more muted and doesn't draw my eye away from the pieced top. It seems to accent rather than distract. Good luck making a choice, it will come out wonderful either way.

weezie 07-14-2013 04:07 AM

In the pix, the brown border seems to blend somewhat with the brown that's in the quilt, whereas the teal border does not blend with the teal in the quilt; if he pix are not misleading, I would choose the 2nd one.

Nanny's dollface 07-14-2013 04:33 AM

I prefer #1. The top looks great
