I want to make a light weight summer quilt. Was planning on making a rag quilt with only the backing and squares...has anyone ever done this? Will it work. Its 98 degrees here...HOT!

Yes, it works fine with just the two pieces of fabric.

I wanted to do a "summer lightweight quilt" as well, and another more experienced quilter than I am suggested I use 100% bleached or unbleached muslin for the batting. Because it's all cotton, and my top and bottom would be all cotton, the quilt would still 'breathe', and the muslin would add very little weight. But like the others, I don't see why you couldn't just put the two layers together. This was just a suggestion.

I took a class with Deidre McElroy in Hershey a few years ago. She spoke about a Tahitian quilt called a tifaifai, which is a quilted top and a backing with no batting- because it is so warm in Tahiti. I have always wanted to make one.
