What is your favorite song title or quote from a song? I want to work a bunch of these into a multi-media collage-type quilt....and I need your help finding GREAT ones! You don't even have to like the song, as long as you love the title or great line or two from the lyrics! All eras and kinds of music are welcome! Please tell me the title of the song and who sang it (if you know) so I can keep a list for my records..... Thanks so much for helping me out!!!!

"I Hope You Dance" by Leann Womack always makes me think of my girls. The lyrics to that song are incredible. "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood. "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers (a one hit wonder). "Let it Be", the Beatles.

Reeling in the Years (Steely Dan), Sunrise, Sunset, swiftly fly the years, one season following another (Fiddler on the Roof)

And the perfect one: Letting go by Suzy Bogguss:

She'll take the painting in the hallway,
The one she did in jr. high
And that old lamp up in the attic,
She'll need some light to study by.

She's had 18 years to get ready for this day
She should be past the tears, she cries some anyway

Oh oh letting go
There's nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there's room enough to fly
And even though, she's spent her whole life waiting,
It's never easy letting go.

Mother sits down at the table
So many things she'd like to do
Spend more time out in the garden
Now she can get those books read too.

She's had 18 years to get ready for this day
She should be past the tears, she cries some anyway.

Oh oh letting go
There's nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there's room enough to fly
And even though, she's spent her whole life waiting,
It's never easy letting go.

Oh oh letting go
There's nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there's room enough to fly
And even though, she's spent her whole life waiting,
It's never easy letting go.

"You're Gonna Miss This" by Trace Adkins
She was staring out that window, of that SUV
Complaining, saying I can't wait to turn 18
She said I'll make my own money, and I'll make my own rules
Mamma put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said I was just like you

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by
He tells her It's a nice place
She says It'll do for now
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says Baby just slow down

'Cause You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater
Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'
She keeps apologizin'
He says they don't bother me
I've got 2 babies of my own
One's 36, one's 23
Huh, it's hard to believe

But you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this
You're gonna miss this
Yeah, you're gonna miss this

I love I hope you dance it is really good song. and then cinderella is another good one that makes me cry. The guy that wrote cinderella song has a bunch of kids and a few of them are adopted. well his birth son was backing out of the driveway and ran over one of his adopted sisters. this was just a couple of years ago and this song actually had her in it. I am trying not to cry just thinking of the song and the sad sad story.

Tapestry- by Carole King. It came immediately to mind as a classic and good quilt song-- "My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue; an ever changing vision of the ever changing view. A wondrous woven magic, in bits of blue and gold; a tapestry to see and feel, impossible to hold...."

Uncle Kracker -- Smile

You make me smile like the sun
Fall out of bed sing like bird
Dizzy in my head spin like a record
Crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Ohh you make me smile

All you need is love!
Raindrops keep falling on my head.
Yesterday when I was young.
I'm gonna miss her.
I've got a brand new pair of roller skates, you've got a brand new key, I think that we should get together to try them out to see
It's too late now, baby
Old dogs and children and watermelon wine
Grandpa, tell me bout the good old days
Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was crying, hard as steel when I'd done wrong

there is an old old song about a ball team in Woonsocket RI
Have been trying to find the words. Was from a movie, I believe, about the college town.

teacherbailey 01-08-2011 05:06 AM

WOW!!!!! Thanks so much for the ideas and please----keep them coming! I am picturing a quilt or quilty-like paper collage (not sure which) where each block is inspired by a different quote--- one starting with each letter of the alphabet, excluding two, probably X and Z---so I have 24, set 4 x 6. Been quilting for about 25 years and want to try something different, so the paper collage idea may win out!

There are great patterns for bottles and jars and I am nursing an idea to include lyrics from Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle. I am also enamored with Rod Stewart's Have I Told You Lately That I Love You? Both have vivid lyrics

On a very old "single" of Tiny Kangaroo down sport, there is a song called Two little boys. It makes me cry everytime I hear it. Lyrics - two little boys had two little toys, one was a horse of tin - I can't remember anymore of them but then they go off to war and are on different sides and run into each other again and he lets his friend live. But my very favorite is "Gentle on My Mind" by Glen Campbell. A real 60's song. It's knowing that your door is always open and your path is free to walk, that makes me want to leave my sleeping bag rolled up and stashed behind your couch. Thanks Carreen

Peace of Mind by Boston

"I understand about indecision , and I don't care about gettin behind. People living in competition, all I want is to have some peace of mind."

This is my all-time favorite rock n roll song. it is about how so many people are caught up in climbing the corporate ladder that they forgot how to live and enjoy their lives.

Rock N Roll Band by Boston

:Rock N Roll band, everybody's waiting.
Get crazy, anticipating,
Love and music, Play, play play!"

This is a song that they wrote and sung when they were beginning to gain popularity. It was about how they felt as they became famous and people wanted to hear them.
