Sad day when you have to 'fess up' to your husband about how much fabric you REALLY have and what it costs....

So my husband and I are currently getting quotes on home insurance. While on the phone with the agent, I learned our previous policy, which DH got without me really paying attention to the itemizations, had my all of my quilting fabric listed as approx. $100 value. DH turned to me and said, "Well this policy is about 5 years old, and I know you've bought more since then. What would you say it's at now, $200? $250?" I just looked at him blankly while my mind raced...tell him the TRUTH? Egads!?!?! I mean, I am normally all for 100% honesty in a relationship, but this is surely an exception to that rule? :wink:

It pained me, it really did, but since this is for insurance purposes and I know it will just come back to somehow bite me in the butt if I don't tell the honest amount (i.e. flood in basement where fabric is, fire, etc...) I told him "try closer to $2,000-$3,000 and that's being conservative." He and the agent (male/non-quilter obviously) were speechless. Now I have to send him pictures and any receipts I may still have to prove it, LOL.

Just thought I'd share that funny story with you all....so how much would your sig. other say your stash is worth? What's the "real" $ amount? :)

lol i have no idea what he would guess, but i'm proud of my sales hunting skills. I have a ton of stuff to do -- i'm actually working on finishing all of my "to-do" projects that are stashed in my bins.

My quilting stuff isn't on his insurance, lol, but my jewelry is!

that's funny.. I keep all my receipts anyway for anything quilting related.. Hubby figures it out at the end of the year for tax purposes.. I know I spend ALOT of $ on fabric and quilting supplies almost weekly but so far, he has not complained.. my guess is his hobbies are just as expensive.. So no changing habits here anytime soon!!

You are brave. I would not confess. When asked I say "you would prefer not to know". Set me thinking though. What with fabric, batting, thread, needles, notions, machines etc. A lot of money was spent.

How can you explain that to a non quilter! :) A tool stash would never need an explaination. :) I never keep receipts and would be hard pressed to come up with a $ value. I am lucky (encourages me to buy) as my DH is usually with me at every purchase and knows the price of fabrics. I know it would be a chore, but pics would go a long way for itemizing-I shudder at the thought :) AND the value goes up with a finished quilt!

For this moment in life, it is nice being single, hhahahaaha oh my. "fessing up" would give me hives.

I hadn't even thought about insuring my quilting stuff. Probably need to look into that. My other addiction besides fabric is shoes. My hubby had no idea how many shoes I had until my closet flooded and I had to pull all of my shoes out while he helped me. He just shook his head.

OMGosh! tooo darn funny. Im sorry you were put in that position. LOL
