I can remember my mom being exactly like this. She and her house were spotless before she could sit down to sew. Thank God that this apple fell FAR from the tree!

I remember my Grandmother had somewhat the same thoughts, she would not sew with housework not done, I don't remember anything about her caring about her personal appearance, however..

I laughed when I read that, too. I can't remember my Mom doing any of those things, but I do remember her changing into a "house dress" just before dinner and my Dad coming home from work. She fixed herself up and put make-up on. Her work was done--except for the dishes after dinner--and her attention was just for him. Glad that is history. lol

This is funny. My husband would rather see me in the sewing room. That way I'm so involved with what I am doing that I don't try to tell him what to do. He doesn't care a bit about what I am wearing. I will spend a whole day in the sewing room and then the next day I might clean. Cleaning never comes first anymore. Only when company is coming.

I have seen this and some similar with other product advertisements.... The sad part is that is the way life was 'suppose' to be back then, but rarely was....My DH wakes up next to me each morning and I'm sure I look much better behind the sewing machine even with my PJ's on LOL!

We can laugh at the article now but really it wasn't a bad mind set at all. I think these women were smarter then we give them credit. When I had to get up early every morning and get the household running and out the door and then work 8 or more hours at my job, come home, take care of house best I could. Even with DH's help it was stressful not getting everything done, making sure we had healthy meals, spending time with the kids and finding time just for me was impossible. I would have given up my career in a heartbeat to be able to stay home and be a housewife and mom. I felt I had to have a career when I was younger to not be the old fashioned wife expecting her husband to be head of household in all matters. After the reality set in of actually 'having it all' and trying to be supermom, the old fashioned housewife sounded like a dream to me. After I quit my job I couldn't believe what I had been missing all those years. Once you start bringing in two incomes, it's almost impossible to not have two incomes. Young women need to think about that before having a family.
