    Default Question on binding

Can one of you talented quilters tell me how to use the backing to bind a quilt. I guess my biggest concern is what to do on the corners. Do any of you know of a tutorial for this type of procedure. Thanking you in advance because I know the talent on this board and willingness of all of you to share your wisdom. Sharon

Krisb, thanks for sharing this tutorial. I am starting a quilt on which I am going to try using this method for binding.

I did this method once in the 80s and I couldn't get the corners to lay properly. Back then, there was no internet or PCs.

Thank you so much. I knew I could count on someone to come up with an answer. Will try to finish my baby quilt next week. This board of quilters never cease to amaze me. Sharon

I finally broke down and purchased this binding tool:
    http://www.nancysnotions.com/product...inding+tool.do
    Here's the video:

I use this method on charity and utility quilts. It's basically the same method as previously posted, but the tool gets the angle perfect. I have a problem getting the angle right without it. If you are going to do a lot of this type of bindings, it's a good investment.

Watched both videos, never tried doing that, but looks like good for table runners, etc., so, I too am going to order the little gizmo to add to my collection. Btw, like that point turner looks good too, will check to see if NN has that.

I am thrilled to have spotted this posting as I have a number of charity quilts to finish and this will certainly be the way I do the bindings. Thanks to all of you for posting those great links! And thanks to you grammasharon for asking about this technique. Now I just have to find some great backing fabric for each quilt since it will show up on the front.

I did it for the first time on my guild name tag -- so super easy. You just trim down the batting & then cut the backing so that it's 1/2 - 9/16" wider than your top, fold it in half & attach just like you normally would attach binding to the front. Really love it because there's no sewing ends together or trying to match up back & front or anything. Easy to sew by machine or by hand. I do recommend hand stitching up the seam of the mitered corners just to give it that perfectly smooth finish.

Most important part when trimming the batting is to MAKE SURE that the batting is out of the way. If you don't that's a mistake you will only make once (says the voice of experience).
