Up North

Anybody else use sheets for the back of their quilts? I buy the 200 thread count mainstays from Walmart, less than $3.00 for twin size. Also if I am going to need a lot of one color. Somewhere I read not to but I find they work great for me. My mom always used sheets in her sewing projects.

I have never used a sheet but several ladies in a quilting group I below to all use sheets without problems. It would definitely be handy in not piecing together the backing.

I've used a sheet for backing several times. It costs a lot less and they work great. I also get mine from Walmart.

I've done the same when in a pinch.
Sometimes, the color I want for a backing isn't available, so I just go to Walmart or sometimes Macy's (when sheets are on sale) and buy a couple of those. I usually buy 2 or 3 for a backup just in case.

I have used them before, too. In fact, my favorite lap blanket is a scrappy quilt I used an old sheet for backing. Covering up with it is like crawling into a comfortable bed.

I think hand quilting can be difficult on sheets because they are woven more tightly than quilting fabric.

I use sheets a lot or I buy fleece throws! Both work well for me!

Have you tried Ikea for your fleece throws, they are lovely and fine and soooo cheap, Ikea opened a store near Malaga back end of last year, and I picked up a couple of their baby fleeces, so soft!!

I always use sheets for quilt backings. I also get them at WalMart. If I need a specific color, I buy white and die or paint it. Works great!
