Has anyone taken a quilt top that they have pieced and attached it to a bed skirt? I'm thinking about doing this but want to know if anyone else has done anything like this. If you have, do you have a picture you could post and was it hard to do? Thanks for any information you might have.

Back in my hippie days, I made a patchwork bedskirt (called 'em dust ruffles, but the same thing). It wasn't a quilt, though, no batting and backing, and was never intended to be a quilt. Making it was very simple, same as any other bedskirt/dust ruffle.

It lasted longer than my liking for it (too busy at floor level) and I decided I much preferred the look of a quilt on top of the bed with a solid color skirting below.

I added a ruffle around three sides of my quilt on our bed. I don't like the sheets and blankets sticking out from under yoiur quilt.

This is kind of what I'm looking for. I guess it wouldn't be called a quilt if you just put the quilt top on top of the bed skirt and sew it down, leaving the ruffle to hang down. It would be more like a bed cover or bedspread. Any ideas where I could search for something like this?

I guess I'm not sure why you would do this. A bed skirt is used to cover up the box spring. Why not just make your quilt top with wider/longer borders long enough to cover the box spring?

I made a fitted bed skirt to cover the box spring. I want to use all my quilts, not just those that are long enough to cover box spring. When you have pets, having window treatments or bed skirts that reach the floor just adds more upkeep than I want to bother with. So, I took the fitted sheet idea and added elastic and my ruffled bed skirt makes the bottom look shirred.

Most bed skirts are ruffled because you have to be so precise with the ones that aren't for them to look good. You certainly COULD add a ruffle to your quilt top, but do it after you have quilted it. You would skip the binding except at the top once you have attached the ruffle.

I have just started an applique quilt top I will be adding a bed skirt to on 3 sides. I will be using it in my motor home. The unit came with one but it needs replacing. I will make tucks in the end corners so it will stay on the bed. The skirt makes it much neater and I don't have to keep making hospital bed like corners to avoid the hanging edges in such a tight spot. I think it will be really neat.

I have done it both ways. Made pleated bed skirt for one bed. It is interesting, but not super easy to get the box pleats into the centers of the three sides and then to hit correctly on the corner. On another bed, which has the deep mattress, I just add borders that are deep enough to cover the box spring on three sides, leaving the pillow side alone. So the quilts are bed-specific.
