Use your special fabric for the "plain" alternate blocks, and do whatever for the other ones.

Some ideas come to mind like attic window, big snowball blocks or just enlarge a star like a friendship star and make super sized blocks. Also alternating pieced blocks with plain large squares can help keep display larger patterns in fabric.

Here I alternated stars and large plain squares to display the large Australian prints. I did fussy cut some of the large print squares as I did the centers of the star blocks. Have fun!

The snowball block quilt I am still making but the snowballs are about 12x12 and the 1/2 SQ triangles I cut off were used to make a very cute small border.

What size block do you want to showcase. Take a look at the quilt on the cover of this book

Ohio Star and Attic Windows are both good patterns for showcasing fabric.

I once did a sampler with blocks that had a center square that was at least four inches. It turned out great. Try quilterscache.com for some patterns.

That is a very cool quilt! I love those prints. I only have a couple of them, though.
