Quilt shops or fabric stores near Amqui Quebec Canada
Hello all. I recently returned from a trip to Amqui Quebec. Funny story... I don't speak much French and didn't know the word for quilt. My future son-in-law sews but didn't know the word either. As we went about our errands, we asked about quilt shops and no one seemed to know. You'd think folks in a very cold climate would know about quilts! We drove past a shop that had the word tissu on the sign... aha! a store that sells fabric! My SIL is fluent in French and English but still found it hard to find the words to ask about the things I was curious about. The shop owner, Sylvie Bilanger, was delightful and spoke a little English. She is a Brother dealer and also deals in yarn. I thought I could find out about a guild/club/ or other quilters from her, but apparently there are no clubs. The shop name is Boutique Ti-Su. Any suggestions on how to find other quilt/fabric stores in the area or how to connect with other quilters?

QuiltnNan ... you had me curious, so I did some googling.
This looks like a pretty active association and has quite a few Guilds listed.
I noticed they even have a Translation Director!

I checked in on the Canadian Quilter's Association. It seems there is only one Quebec shop listed as a member. Actually I was quite surprised at how few LQS' are members all across the country.

thanks for the links... i watched the tv video at the quilt show[under the Salons topic]... wow, that gal talks fast!! LOL it seems the guilds and groups are all very near the major cities. i'll be making more trips up to Amqui, so might try to stop in Quebec or Montreal... kind of difficult to coordinate with my future SIL's trips, though.

Quiltnan, I'm from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It's the biggest metropole of the Quebec province. Quilting is not a very popular hobby here, so it's very hard to find nice fabric. I myself buy all my fabric from the US! There is one nice LQS in Montreal, it's call Courtepointe Claire. These folks are very serious about quilting and nice, dynamic people. Outside Montreal, you may find a section for quiting cotton in fabric shop. It will be call: "coton pour artisanat". But you will find the price very high and all is imported from US anyway.
There is a few quilting guild, but again, it's not a very popular hobby. I think quilting was more a canadian-english tradition. So you find it in the french area only when there was an aunt living in US and visiting her relatives (there was a big french canadian emigration to the US at the beginning of the century).
Anyway, feel free to ask me anything you want to know, I'm a quikter, I speak french and I live here!

QuiltnNan ... Just thinking ... if you are heading to Amqui from NY, you might have luck with stops in New Brunswick? Once the sap starts running, you just may want to plan a trip to Quebec for the maple syrup festivities. There's nothing like a French Canadian trip to the sugar shack! Enjoy Canada, wherever and whenever you come! (and come to Ontario too!

I remember seeing quilts shops along the Saint-Laurent many years back....the south shore of the Saint-Laurent all the way to Perce there are many artisans of all kinds..that was before I was a quilter yet I remember seeing a lot of beautiful quilts in shops .....in French we call quilts "courte-pointe" and in France "Patchwork" I found the CQQ(Courte-pointe Quebec Quilts) online which lists guilds in Quebec....
