Quilting is a Puckered Mess

I agree with busy fingers. My machine does not like it when I try to use two different threads either. Try winding a bobbin with the same thread as your spool. I am sure there must be a class I could take somewhere that would help me get past this problem, but until then, I just use them the same. Good luck on such a pretty quilt

Try Sewers Aid. It's a silicone product that you can put directly on he thread. Just put little dots all over the thread cone. Also little dots along the thread that is already off the cone before it hits the needle.[does that make sense?]Mono thread can be kind of sticky and it is probably sucking on to the tension discs as it tries to pass through them.

Jamie Wallen has a good video on bobbin tension on YouTube and he sells a tool that can make your bobbin case round again. He calls it a dewarper. The bobbin tension video is a good starting point and needs to be checked every time you change thread types. The reason being that a thick thread will pull the bobbin case up using the same setting that will let a thin thread leave the case in your hand (that makes more sense when you watch the video.)
I have so far avoided the flattened bobbin case by taking the case out over a rug or an anti-fatigue mat. It's the first bounce that hurts the most.

First thing I always do when nice stitching turns messy is change the needle! Might have a "barb" that is not always catching, but I can buy needles, I can not grow back the hair I tear out! Lol!

I spoke with the Superior Threads home office about my experience today. The So Fine prewounds that I used are a new product, and they will look into improving them.
Their theory about why the So Fine thread that I wound myself puckered with the YLI monofilament is the texture that they put on the So Fine thread. A textured thread does not play well with a slick thread like a monofilament. The DMC embroidery thread that I usually use is slick, and that is why it worked when the So Fine didn't. They think their Bottom Line thread would work with the monofilament.
Interesting... if nothing else, I'm getting an education!
